KRAFT DINNER PHONE
June 24, 2010

As I sift through more ‘stuff’ in preparation for my move I am reminded that some of these things would make great subjects for posts to this page. I don’t consider my ‘stuff’ of great importance, yet some things are great conversation pieces and I keep them not for their value, but more for the uniqueness they offer. My Kraft Dinner Phone was found in an antique store in Toronto’s Leslieville neighborhood back in the early nineties. I think I bought it for ten bucks and it was the thrill of finding out that indeed it actually works that sold me. (the shop keeper plugged it into a phone jack and I called home for messages on the KD phone!)
I used it for years as an extension in the kitchen (how appropriate), yet don’t use it anymore due to the highly irritating ring tone. I love how Canadian this is….it includes the obligatory French side….and the packaging is definitely from an era gone by. I’m not sure of the story behind this phone. Was there a time when Kraft had phone give-away’s? I’d love to know more about this! I think this beats the Hamburger Phone anyday.

I had a Kraft Dinner Phone...I talk about it all the time and wish I had kept it...I will have to keep my eye open at antique stores...thanks for sharing!
Thanks Sue! Do you remember what year or time period these came out? Heck, maybe I have your old one!
I have one of these phones as well, I got mine for fifty cents at a garage sale. This is the first time I have seen another one anywhere, I have no idea when these came out or how many there are in the world, but its definitely a pretty cool thing to have.
At a recent food drive, I found a suspicious looking box of Kraft Dinner. Upon closer inspection, I discovered two things:
1. The promotion for the phone pictured above.
(Price: 2 UPC codes + $19.95)
2. "May 25, 1986" in the spot where the best before date usually goes
Thanks Toronto Guy! The mystery slowly unfolds.
Love this post. Love everything actually.
I have one too, just dug it out of a box in basement! does anyone know if they are worth anything? I may have to pass it on to my son who is still a huge KD fan!!
My dad has one of these! I'm surprised that someone else on the internet has both this, and the Eaton 400. Very cool. :P
I still have my kd phone from the original promotion. I have used it as an extra line before I gave up on a land line. I recall it was in the early to mid 80s.
Thanks Rose! So good to hear there are others out there with this great promo.
